Classic glacier glasses make a comeback with revamped performance technology

Trusted by the world’s leading mountaineers, including record-breaking Nimsdai Purja and Adriana Brownlee, the classic glacier glasses have been brought back with style and new performance technology from VALLON. Meet the Heron Glacier.
First created in the alpine town of Chamonix in the 1880s, glacier glasses are a wonderful evolution of alpine masks (linen and cotton with holes cut for the eyes). Thankfully sports eyewear has come a long way since then, and even more so thanks to the team at VALLON, who noticed that glacier glasses were in sore need of a technical upgrade for the 21st century.
Built with resilient, lightweight frames and malleable temples, the Heron Glacier pack away tightly but can be adapted to fit almost any face shape. The biggest upgrade is the Cat. 4 polycarbonate shatterproof lenses which offer the ultimate eye protection in snowy and glacial geographies.
In places where snow blindness is a real concern, many rookie explorers will attest that scrimping on your eyewear is a recipe for disaster. The Heron Glacier make sure that your eyes are properly protected with 6% Visible Light Transmission (VLT), a brown base tint (best for blocking blue light and enhancing contrast), and leather side shields that keep out glare from the sun, and any rogue reflections off the ice. VALLON’s glacier glasses also sport small ventilation holes in the leather side shields that help prevent your sunglasses fogging up - in addition to an anti-fog coating that sits inside the lens.
The leather centrepiece can be easily removed to improve airflow, but we like the extra protection that it provides across the bridge of the nose, (and pairs well with a nose pad for those who are particularly sensitive to sunburn). Not to be swayed by fads and design trends, VALLON have stayed true to the classic glacier glasses aesthetic, whilst upgrading all the features with the latest performance technology.
Heron Glacier are available here from the VALLON store.
