Intuitive, Nostalgic, Modern Playfulness: 4 Reasons to Try Long Weekend’s 35mm Film Camera
In an era saturated with technology that enables us to capture every moment of our lives in high definition, the allure of retro film cameras and their grainy, muted exposures seems to have an even stronger appeal.
We recently got wind that Moment have released a new 35mm film camera under the Long Weekend brand. Like many eager film photographers, we are on the waitlist for when the stock drops, but we wanted to share our thoughts on why we can’t wait to try out this new release..
1. Timeless technology
Harking back to the days where we carried a beaten up (but remarkably reliable) Canon AE-1 film camera with us on the slopes, the Long Weekend 35mm has the potential to bring back a golden era of film photography, for every adventurer. From carefully considered shots, through to spontaneous snaps there is something timeless about the nature of film photography that connects us to moments in a different way to any modern phone.
2. A nostalgic walk down memory lane
When looking at the Long Weekend 35mm Film Camera it’s hard not to reminisce about (mis)adventures with film cameras past. Those times we thought we took an incredible reel of photos, only to realise that we had forgotten to load the film in the first place? Or the numerous disposable cameras films that came out a soot-matt grey because our kids had forgotten to put the flash on? Film photography for all its charms, also has its hiccoughs, and it’s nice to see a new generation engaging with this game of photography roulette!
3. Retro feel
One of the things we miss most about our old film cameras is the satisfying feel of the camera in our hands. It was nice to have a quiet moment winding a film back into its canister, or taking the time to really consider the shot before hearing the satisfying click of the shutter. The Long Weekend design is a nod to classic cameras of the past, with a colorful, quirky update.
4. Modern functionality
Although this could be read as a love letter to cameras from decades past, we have to admit there were things that could be improved: heavy frames, leaky covers, poor waterproofing, cheap lenses all meant that there were plenty of opportunities for our photos to not turn out quite as we had hoped. The contemporary features of Long Weekend’s 35mm Film Camera promise a new and improved experience on some of these pitfalls.
